Sixty Acres and A Bride. Love this cover and I was curious about what this book is about, but let me explain: If you know me a little bit, you may know this about me: I NEVER READ THE SYNOPSIS. Ever….seriously, I want to be surprised by the story. It is kind of like when you watch a movie trailer and you think, “Well, after that I don’t need to go see the movie.” So, I limit my reading of the back cover. If I can get away without doing it, I will. SO: how does that apply to reading Sixty Acres and a Bride by Reginna Jennings? Only after reading part of the way through did I realize the parallel between a certain biblical story of two women caught in the same situation. This made it even more of a fun read! A nice little surprise if you will. If you are one of those who read the synopsis,you would have ruined the surprise, I was delighted! Regina Jennings tells the story is such a way that one moment I was laughing, next moment I was biting my nails!

I loved Rosa, and when I read her dialogue, I was hearing Penelope Cruz’s beautiful accent in my head. This book had me laughing out loud in some spots, and oh man, some parts I was at the edge of my seat! There is a certain nasty character who tries to make Rosa’s life miserable, but oh boy, the man who tries to protect her is Weston.

What I loved most about this book is how both Rosa and Weston feel that they are undeserving of love, and I can relate to that. This story was a strong parallel to me of how often times we feel the same way, but God is always there to love us with a ferocious and jealous love. Rosa has left her family and home country to follow her mother-in-law, having been rejected by her own family because of her newfound Christian Faith.

The Garner family are full of interesting characters and I look forward to spending more time with them in book #2 & #3.

A BOOK THAT FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE READING SAYS,
“I was never loved.” “Yes I once loved but it was my fault.” “No, it is all my fault.” “I’m such a failure.” “I am life’s fault.” “I try to do what is right.” “I’m not worthy because I’m at fault.” “It is my entire fault.” “My fault is my fault.” “No one is guilty other than me.” “I spell the word F-A-U-L_T.”

This is life that surrounded the two central characters and what he thought of himself and what she thought of herself. I can easily see even God with his elbow propped up on a cloud; chin seated in the palm of his hand; eyeballs rolling upward and thinking, “I get it. Can’t we just please move on?”

I give this book (TWO) stars because it was really really “faultyling (a new word made up so as to emphasize) boring”. Many words do not always a great book make. The beginning of the book never established characters. The end was long and dragged out. And Tillerton? What was that all about? I will read no further into this series and that is not "my fault".
I have mixed feelings about this book. I stayed up late to finish it on one hand, but there were some aspects that I didn't like.

What I didn't like Why do authors so often put in a creepy dude? Mr. Tillerton stalked Rosa and was totally inappropriate. While believable, I didn't like that aspect of the story.
Also, I thought the reason for marriage was shaky (I would say more, but I don't want to give away the book). I wish that Weston had found another way that honored Rosa's feelings.

What I did like It was so much like the book of Ruth! How cool is that? I also loved some of the Hispanic culture that was brought in. While I feel it was weak at times, it added a lot to the story.

Overall, I liked Caught in the Middle better than this book, but this was a nice, one time read.
What a great read. Rosa is new in town and she doesn't know she will ever fit in as she is Mexican and not always proper. She knows that she no were else to go and she owes it to her mother in law to help save the family farm but is she willing to give everything? Weston knows that he has to look out for Rosa as she is family and he wants her to feel welcome but how can he keeps his hands off her? Unfortunately they both find themselves in a bind and there is only way out of this mess they will have o get married.
They like each other but marriage is a big change and Rosa doesn't want to take advantage of Wes's generosity so she wants to work at the farm but Wes isn't happy as he hoped that she would just want to be his wife and be happy.
The more they struggle the harder it becomes for them both and they can't see a way out of their marriage without someone getting hurt. Will Wes let her walk away or will he fight to keep the woman that he loves?
What a lovely story of love, helplessness and two people that always put others before themselves.
When I turned the last page of Regina Jennings debut novel, Sixty Acres and a Bride, I was reminded of a quote from one of my favorite authors, Jane Austen "but for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short."

So true, Jane. The story of Rosa, Weston, and their close-knit families of post Civil War Texas was my favorite kind of read great characters that felt like family, a vivid setting, and historical detail that fully immersed me in the story while discreetly avoiding the history lecture. The characters' deep faith--a faith that kept them both grounded and conflicted--was never preachy or contrived.

Regina laid out the strands of her story--family obligations, cultural differences, an evil villain, and a heartfelt romance--then deftly wove them together in a way that kept me fearing and hoping for her hero and heroine until the last page was turned.

Sixty Acres was a multi-layered read that will leave you satisfied on every level except one. It was too short. Luckily, I have it on good authority that Regina has two more historical romances on their way, and I daresay they will be equally well-written. Regina, Jane would be pleased.
