How to Help WHen Parents Grieve edition by Holly Fox Vellekoop Professional Technical eBooks Reviews

This book serves as a very useful tool for anyone that is going through the grieving process. I highly recommend this book to everyone that is seeking comfort in the loss of a loved one.
I was touched by the heartfelt advice and encouragement that Holly offers in this book about grieving. Holly's insistence that everyone be able to grieve in their own way is so powerful. I personally have not lost a child but a close family member has and it was incredibly insightful to hear from other parents who have lost dear children. I would highly recommend this book for anyone suffering a loss.
Holly Vellekoop knows what it's like to lose a child, certainly one of the most painful experiences imaginable. By sharing her experience and telling the stories of other grieving parents, she has offered readers a uniquely practical and helpful book. Too often parents who lose children are bombarded by well meaning but insensitive advice from friends and family who don't understand what they are going through. What makes this book so helpful is that it includes insights from "experts," other parents who share what helped and didn't help as they grieved the loss of their children. The stories are moving and honest. Reading this book will be like having a friend beside you--someone who understands your pain and can support you in the midst of it. It will also be helpful to counselors, pastors, friends and family. I would have given it five stars except for the last story in the book, which tells of the terrible grief of a mother who suffered the loss of a child who was brutally murdered. Though readers can sympathize with her deep grief, it's unfortunate that it led her to believe that she can regularly communicate with her son after her death. Such desires are understandable, but it would be unfortunate if her story were to encourage readers to believe that such things are possible or advisable. Having said that, I can enthusiastically recommend the rest of the book.
